Care of Fine Linens

Our linens may be machine washed or dry cleaned, but we recommend home laundering with a lukewarm wash cycle and a cool dryer setting (excessive heat will cause abnormal shrinkage). The use of bleaching agents on colors may diminish the brilliance and the depth of tone, so we suggest a gentle soap powder without added whiteners.

Items woven of 100% linen or linen/cotton blends should be laundered the same way as cotton. Linen is valued for its strength and durability, and with repeated laundering becomes softer and takes on a beautiful luster.

Matteo linens can be pressed while damp using the cotton or linen setting. Alternatively, remove linens from the dryer promptly and fold carefully, smoothing the fabric as you fold. Line drying is easy and gives excellent results for most linens. Embellished items should be ironed on the reverse side. After washing and drying, expect matelasses and piques to shrink approximately 10% while all other fabrics will shrink approximately 5%. Our products are generously cut to allow for this shrinkage and most of our products are pre-shrunk.

Matteo linens become softer, smoother, and more absorbent with use and proper laundering. They will be beautiful for generations when cared for properly.
